Petra's Birthday, Montmartre and White Night in Pictures ....

Chris and I had another treat this past week. Our friend Petra from Charlottesville, who is in Chris's program at UVA visited us after giving a paper at Oxford. I had such a nice time having a friend to walk around town with. Here are some pictures of Petra's birthday dinner:
Chris is wearing his new brown velvet vintage coat.  :)

And then the next day, after a wholesome breakfast, we went to the Arche de Triumph and Montmartre to the Sacred Heart  (Sacre Coeur).

We ate our lunch on a bench in a park with a great view of the city.

And we had some yummy desserts ...

Being at the Place du Tertre reminded me of being with my family in Paris twelve years ago. My sister bought a painting here and we took her picture with the artist. So, I took this picture with her in mind.

The burdens one feels as a doctoral student - We had to laugh at Chris in this one!

And then we followed Chris back home ...

In the evening we met up with some friends and went to Nuit Blanche ("white night") where all of the churches and museums open for free for different artistic events. We ended up only making it to Notre Dame and I just took this one picture. There were some women singing very haunting medieval music to stringed instruments. Inside the church they had big spotlights lighting up the stained glass windows. It was really nice!
